Description
Phulchoki, sitting high above Kathmandu at meters, offers one of the best short treks around – ideal if you’re after greenery, animals, or quiet peaks. From the thick woods of Godawari, the path moves upward through calm woodland filled with oak, pine, because also rhododendrons. As you walk, the variety of life stands out; this spot’s famous among bird lovers, since seen types flit overhead.
When you go up, it gets calmer and colder, giving relief from the noisy streets down below. Once at the top, there’s a wide-open sight of Kathmandu Valley – on sharp mornings, you can even spot far-off peaks like Langtang, Ganesh Himal, or Gaurishankar. Up there, metal masts stand tall alongside fluttering prayer flags; scattered lookouts add to the wild, airy feel.
The top draws at Fulchok are the untouched woodland path, plenty of birds, bursts of rhododendrons in certain months, quiet surroundings, along with stunning sights of peaks and valleys. If you enjoy nature, love taking photos, or just walk trails now and then, this spot offers something lovely, energizing, yet unforgettable outside – only sixty minutes from town.

Detail Itinerary
🕕 6:30–7:15 AM – Drive to Godawari
Begin at any spot in Kathmedu or Lalitpur, then make your way to Godawari Botanical Garden – it’s where most people kick things off.
If hunger hits, now’s the moment – grab some toast or brew a cup.
🕢 7:15–7:30 AM – Get Ready & Begin the Hike
Grab your pack, pick up a pass if you need one, loosen up your muscles, then hit the trail.
🕣 7:30–9:30 AM – Godawari to Mid-Point
The path gently rises, winding through tall trees.
Get ready for lots of stairs, some cover from the sun, while birds chirp nearby.
Pause now and then when you need to – plenty of time.
🕘 9:30–10:45 AM – Mid-Point to Fulchoki Summit
The last part climbs higher, yet feels way more satisfying.
You’ll begin spotting signal masts up ahead – so you’re nearly at your spot!
🕙 10:45–11:30 AM – Enjoy the Summit
You made it!
Take it slow right here – enjoy the sights across Kathmedu Valley, or when skies are open, catch a glimpse of the Himalayas.

Recommendation
1. Start Early
Start walking from ::AM if you want milder temps, better sightlines, plus fewer people around. Hitting the path early means you’re more likely to see birds too.
2. Wear Proper Hiking Shoes
The path might be rough, plus it’s often steep and wet – worst in rainy or cold months. Solid footwear helps out a lot.
3. Carry Enough Water & Light Snacks
Water’s not sold on the path or up top – pack enough, maybe 2 liters. Instead of buying food, carry snacks such as dried fruit, almonds, or oat bars.
4. Use Trekking Poles if You Have Knee Issues
The steep part down might hurt your knees. However, using poles keeps you steady while taking stress off your joints.
5. Best Seasons to Visit
Spring (March–April): Rhododendrons blooming
Autumn (Oct–Nov): Clear Himalayan views
Winter (Dec–Feb): Crisp air, occasional snow
Steer clear of the rainy season because of slippery soil plus bloodsuckers crawling around
6. Dress in Layers
The air gets cooler the higher you go. So bring a thin jacket or something that blocks the wind.
7. Consider a Guide If You Want Birdwatching Experience
Fulchoki ranks among Nepal’s best spots for birdwatching. With a local expert, you’re more likely to catch glimpses of elusive birds – otherwise hard to find on your own.
8. Respect the Forest Environment
Stick to the path – don’t grab any greenery or blooms while you’re out there. Bring out everything you bring in; leave no trace behind. This spot’s within a safeguarded woodland habitat.
9. Check the Weather Before You Go
Fog or heavy rain might hide what’s ahead while turning trails slick. Go when skies are open for a smoother time.
10. Take Your Time
One step at a time, never rushing. Breathe in the trees, pause if you’re tired, yet soak up the quiet – Fulchoki cares more about how you walk than where you end
