Nestled between the sweeping expanses of Makalu Barun National Park and the renowned heights of Sagarmatha National Park lies the stunning Arun Valley. The journey from the Arun Valley to Everest Base Camp presents an exceptional path for those seeking an alternative to the classic Everest routes. This adventure begins in the less-traveled Arun Valley before connecting with the historic trail leading to Everest Base Camp.

This remarkable region offers breathtaking panoramas of both the Makalu and Everest mountain ranges. The Arun Valley to Everest Base Camp route provides several flexible paths tailored to a trekker’s interests. The journey can conclude at the market town of Charikot, near Jiri, or at Lukla, the traditional gateway to Everest. For those wishing to continue, the path leads onward to Everest Base Camp and the summit of Kala Patthar. Given the extended duration of this itinerary, participants should be in strong physical condition and mentally prepared for the challenge.

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu and transfer to Hotel.

Day 02: Fly from Kathmandu to Tumlingtar and Drive to Kartikeghat.
Duration: Approx. 3-4 hrs drive
A brief flight from Kathmandu toward the Makalu region provides magnificent Himalayan panoramas from your window.

Day 03: Trek from Kartikeghat to Gothe bazaar.

Day 04: Trek from Gothe Bazaar to Salpa Phedi.

Day 11: Trek from Buspa to Surkey.

Day 12: Trek from Surkey to Phakding.
Duration: Approx. 5-6 hrs drive and 4hrs trek.

Following breakfast, a drive brings you to Surke. The day’s trek from there is a four-hour walk to Phakding. The route offers sights of emerald valleys and pine woodlands, ending at a serene village by the river, famous for its guesthouses and bakeries. You will spend the night at a local lodge in Phakding.The pathway meanders past charming communities and layered farmland, providing insight into the routines of residents. You’ll overnight in Phakding to recuperate for the coming journey.

Day 13: Trek from Phakding to Namche Bazaar.
Duration: Approx. 5-6hrs trek
Distance: Approx. 7.5km

Post-breakfast, the hike starts with an incline following the Dudh Koshi River. Scenery includes woodlands, cascades, and spinning prayer wheels. This section also grants the initial sighting of the peak Thamserku. The entry point to the UNESCO-listed Sagarmatha National Park is at Monjo. The trek involves crossing several cable bridges, among them the notable Tenzing-Hillary Bridge. Subsequently, the ascent toward Namche Bazaar grows considerably steeper and more strenuous.Roughly two hours of uphill walking brings you to Namche Bazaar, a bustling high-altitude town blending custom with contemporary comforts. It offers various stores, eateries, and stunning vistas. After settling into your lodge, take a leisurely evening stroll.

Day 14: Rest day at Namche Bazaar for acclimatization
Duration: Approx. 4-5 hrs trek
Distance: Approx. 6.4 km

This is your initial acclimatization day in Namche Bazaar, essential for adjusting to the altitude. A morning hike leads to the renowned Everest View Hotel. Its vantage point delivers sweeping panoramas of Everest, Ama Dablam, Thamserku, Nuptse, Lhotse, and other summits.
You may unwind with a hot drink while absorbing the majestic mountain views. Afterwards, descend back to Namche for lunch, relaxation, and a possible walk later in the day.

Day 15: Trek from Namche Bazaar to Tengboche.
Duration: Approx. 5-6 hrs trek
Distance: Approx. 9 km

Breakfast precedes a gently rising trail that affords awe-inspiring views of peaks like Ama Dablam, Everest, Lhotse, and Nuptse. The path is lined with carved mani stones and colorful prayer flags. From Sanasa, the route drops through lovely pine and rhododendron groves. A metal bridge over the Dudh Koshi River at Phunki Tenga marks your lunch spot. A consistent, forested climb after lunch leads to Tengboche.
Here, you will tour Tengboche Monastery, the Khumbu’s most significant spiritual center, established in the early 20th century. Following the visit, you’ll check into your overnight lodge.

Day 16: Trek from Tengboche to Dingboche.
Duration: Approx. 5-6 hrs trek

The morning involves a brief downhill walk through rhododendron stands, passing the Deboche Nunnery and fluttering prayer flags. After crossing a suspension bridge over the Imja Khola River, a gradual ascent through wide valleys unfolds, featuring superb perspectives of Ama Dablam.
Lunch is taken in Somare before continuing on a moderately rising path to the high-altitude settlement of Dingboche. Once checked in, a brief walk nearby aids in acclimatization.

Day 17: Trek from Dingboche to Lobuche.
Duration: Approx. 5-6 hrs trek

After breakfast, a gentle climb through an alpine valley commences. Views encompass the peaks Taboche and Cholatse prior to a lunch break in Thukla.
Post-lunch, a zigzagging climb leads to the Everest Memorial Site, a tribute to those who perished on the mountain. Then, trek for approximately ninety minutes on a mild slope to reach Lobuche for the night.

Day 18: Trek to Everest Base Camp and Return to GorakShep.
Duration: Approx. 7-8 hrs trek
Distance: Approx. 11.2km

This is among the trek’s most anticipated days. An early start leads across glacial debris and rocky ground to Gorak Shep. Following check-in and lunch, the journey continues onward to Everest Base Camp.
The path tracks the spine of the Khumbu Glacier; the effort is demanding but the payoff is lasting. Arriving at base camp is a significant and moving achievement. After time for photographs and reflection, you return to Gorak Shep to sleep.

Day 19: Morning hike to Kalapathar and trek to Pheriche.

Arise before dawn for the hike to Kala Patthar, renowned as the premier sunrise viewpoint for Everest, also showcasing Nuptse, Lhotse, Pumori, and Lingtren. The climb is tough but immensely gratifying.
After sunrise, descend to Gorak Shep for breakfast. Then, retrace the path down to Thukla and branch off toward Pheriche, a village set in a broad valley with a stream and striking mountain scenery.

Day 20: Trek from Pheriche to Namche Bazar.

The day’s route descends steadily through an open valley, passing Deboche on the way to Tengboche. A sharp descent from there brings you to Phunki Tenga for lunch.
After lunch, undertake one last forested climb to Sanasa. The remainder of the trail to Namche Bazaar is relatively easy and predominantly level.

Yes!! You can charge mobile phones and camera batteries during the trek. At most of the places you will get to charge for free but at some places you have to pay some amount to charge. Remember that It is always better to bring power bank with you which will be helpful.

Yes!! The Internet is accessible during Arun Valley to EBC Trek. You can access the 3G network on mobile phones. The mobile internet is fast enough to browse and even make video calls. You will get continuous signal during the whole trek but there will be certain dark spots along the trek where connection may drop. There are limited WiFi hotspots during the trek which will charge for usage only some will let you use it for free. So, for internet access we recommend you to buy a SIM and use 3G.
